Release party celebrates two of our newest books

On Thursday, March 15, amid a crowd of their adoring fans, including parents, siblings, and tutors, students in our after-school tutoring program read excerpts of their work from two of their most recent publications, Look Closer/Mira de Cerca, volume 9 and A Time to Eat Cake.

Look Closer/Mira de Cerca, our biannual, bilingual chapbook of collected works from after-school tutoring, touched on themes from the writing table. Students visit the writing table every day after homework is finished to tackle prompts on everything from the seasons to family, memories, and change. A Time to Eat Cake rose out of a collaboration with Miette (miette.com), and Miette owner Meg Ray read from her beautiful foreword to introduce the stories, which, as the title suggests, share the joy of indulging in sweet delights.

The event was hosted by high schoolers on 826’s Youth Leadership and Advisory Board, who also helped to create the prompts for the pieces of writing. To celebrate after sharing their work, students and families enjoyed treats provided by Miette! Thank you to Miette and all the student writers for their work on these beautiful publications, now available for purchase in the Pirate Supply StoreA Time to Eat Cake is also available through Miette as a part of a decadent gift hamper, which would make the perfect spring gift!
