This is what it is to be a young, gifted, and black person growing up in the Fillmore on Eddy Street. There’s the smell of exhaust fumes, people rushing to home and work, and the sounds of gunshots behind my house. I have seen a variety of fatalities in my young days. I have smelled and tasted the air of the city. I love being in a city because I was born here and I love it. I moved away for eight years, but then my family returned to San Francisco.
San Francisco is very important to me because this is where I was born and raised and I have created memories here with my family. I greatly appreciate the attractions here. I feel there is a special connection for all people to the place they were born.
