Calling all warm communicators, clever wordsmiths, eagle-eyed copyeditors, and analytics enthusiasts! We’re hiring for a role that will help 826 Valencia take its many communications endeavors to new heights, build your professional skills, and offer hands-on experience in nonprofit development, copywriting, social media strategy, media relations, and more.
This is a one-year position through AmeriCorps* VISTA. 826 National is partnering with Corps 18 to support volunteer recruitment and program development in seven different writing and tutoring centers across the country (San Francisco, Ann Arbor/Detroit, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, and New York). 826 Valencia, located in San Francisco, is thrilled to work with AmeriCorps* VISTA to build our organization’s capacity to serve under-resourced students in San Francisco.
The Communications Associate will work closely with the 826 Valencia Communications and Development team to:
Build awareness of 826 Valencia’s programs and mission: Update and maintain website content, participate in our site redesign process, strategize ways to improve user experience and clarity of information, implement social media campaigns and strategies, create fresh and engaging content for 826 Valencia’s newsletters and external communications.
Engage local media outlets in our work, spreading the word about our programs and impact and amplifying our students’ voices: Research potential media partnerships that will connect with new audiences, find new platforms for sharing our students’ work, support media at 826 Valencia events.
Analyze data to improve our communications strategies and expand 826 Valencia’s reach: Use data to evaluate communications strategies and campaigns and improve their reach and effectiveness, present that data to help inform new initiatives, support and advance the organization’s and each department’s communications goals.
As an AmeriCorps VISTA, you will receive healthcare benefits, a bi-weekly stipend* from the Corporation for National and Community Service, and the option of an education award, which you may apply to student loans or furthering your education, or a smaller end-of-service award. You may also be eligible for a relocation allowance or child care assistance. A full description of all VISTA benefits can be found here.
*In 2016, the stipend for VISTAs in San Francisco was approximately $19,000 for the year. The 2017-18 stipend will be comparable, with CNCS announcing the official amount in the coming weeks. Your stipend will be subject to federal, state, and city taxes.
To apply, please email a cover letter, resume, and a writing sample to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line: VISTA Communications Associate. Deadline to apply is May 24th, open until filled.
