The Sea and Me: Sailor Songs and Stories by Salty Lads and Lasses (CLASS FULL–WAIT LIST ONLY)

Taught by Gina Bardi and Lucien Sonder Open to 12 students, ages 8-11 A three-week workshop February 11–25 Saturdays, 2:30–4:30 p.m. Come join us for a nautical writing adventure on the high seas! We will begin the workshop with a trip to San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, where you will tour the 1886 sailing vessel Balclutha and other historic ships. Learn about the work sailors did in the olden days, what they ate, and how they passed the time on long voyages. You will also attend a singalong and hear how sailors used music to help them with their work. During the second two sessions, you will craft stories, sea songs, poems or letters, incorporating the sites and sounds of the sea. Students will read their writing aloud for family and friends at 826 Valencia on Saturday 2/25 at 4 PM.
