Cut, Paste, Erase: Collage and Poem Making Explored (CLASS FULL—WAIT LIST ONLY)

Jan 22,2017, 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM @ 826 Valencia (Mission Center)
Taught by Eva Shantharam Open to 12 students, ages 13–18 A two-week workshop January 22 & 29 Sundays, 12–2 p.m. We all know the blank page can be daunting— why not start somewhere else? In this workshop, we will focus on expressing ourselves by altering pre-existing texts and images, combining collage image-making with erasure poetry. Using discarded print material, we will cut out and create collages that will have a connection to erasure poems we create. Whether you start with a poem that then informs a collage, or with a collage that then influences a poem, this exercise will help you explore your originality. We will also discuss how these creative methods are used as a tool for protest and activism by looking at examples from artists and writers working today. You will leave with a diptych, or two-part work of art, combining your visual collage and finished poem. To enroll in this workshop, fill out the following Google form: You will receive an email to confirm your spot in the workshop.
